AnywhereCommerce Walker C2X Review

Smartphone/Tablet

The Walker C2X is a more advanced version of the original Walker mobile card reader. Available from AnywhereCommerce, the C2X accepts magnetic stripe cards, EMV chip cards, and contactless payments such as Apple Pay.

AnywhereCommerce has released an accompanying app for its Walker card reader models, although you can integrate the Walker C2X into your own POS or mobile payment app.

AnywhereCommerce offers 6 different mobile credit card readers, which can be a little confusing when you’re trying to decide on the right one. This reference chart provides a quick explanation of the major differences.

Walker C2X Features

Unfortunately, as with most of the Walker models, the websites for the apps compatible with the Walker C2X don’t offer a great deal of information about features. AnywhereCommerce’s site provides more information.

For payments, the mobile apps can capture signatures on screen, and allow you to easily process transactions, allow customers to add gratuities at the time of sale, automatically calculate tax, or process refunds. You can even process payments in multiple currencies. You’ll also have the option of how to provide receipts to customers: choose from email or text message receipts.

For non-payment functions, the compatible apps offer an inventory management option to allow you to track your stock and make sure you have inventory on hand.

Hardware and Battery Life

The Walker C2X reader works with Apple, Android, and Windows devices. You’ll need to check on the compatibility with your specific model. The reader itself measures 54.4 x 62.9 x 18.6 mm and weighs 76 grams. You can connect it to your mobile device in three ways: your audio jack, a Bluetooth connection, or a USB cable. (The Bluetooth connection allows for firmware updates as necessary.)

LED status indicators show you battery life and light up during contactless payment transactions. The Walker C2X runs on a rechargeable lithium polymer battery, which you can connect via USB cable to a power source. AnywhereCommerce claims that you can process 500 EMV card dips, 700 contactless payment taps, or 4,000 magnetic stripe card swipes on a single charge.

The Walker C2X also has a six month warranty.

Security

The Walker C2X is PCI compliant, as well as EMV Level 1 and Level 2 certified for contact transactions and Level 1 certified for EMV contactless transactions. The reader utilizes encryption technology at the time of swipe or dip to protect cardholders so your customers’ credit card information will travel safely over networks.

Reporting

AnywhereCommerce’s website says that the apps compatible with the Walker C2X provide integrated reporting capabilities, but it doesn’t specify what kind of information the reports provide. However, you can integrate this card reader into your POS system or mobile payment app if you prefer the reporting options those programs offer.

Pricing for Credit Card Processing

AnywhereCommerce, the maker of Walker readers, is not a payment processor itself. The good news is that Walker readers can be used with many different payment processors, which gives you the ability to shop around for the most competitive pricing. The costs to take credit and debit cards using a Walker reader will be set by the payment processor you choose to work with. Need a quote? The Walker C2X takes both chip cards and contactless payments like Apple Pay, so it offers more choices for customers than the base model Walkers.
