Described by PAX as terminals that look and perform like high-end smartphones, the “A-Series” line boasts portability, durability, and state-of-the-art payment acceptance. As part of the A-series, the A80 credit card terminal offers secure card processing with a sleek, modern design in your choice of black or white.
While most of the terminals in the A-series line are full touchscreen and look the most like smartphones, the A80 combines a touchscreen with a traditional built-in physical PIN pad. Backlit keys make it easy to use in any lighting conditions. If you prefer a PIN pad instead of utilizing a touchscreen entirely, the A80 is a great choice.
As you can see in the image above, the PAX A80 has a magnetic stripe reader on the right side of the machine. The bottom features the slot for inserting a chip card, while the top provides the NFC reader for contactless payments. The A80 provides all of the necessary features to seamlessly accept payments but at a lower cost than many other terminals on the market.
Payment Types and Functions
Like many PAX terminals, the A80 was designed with multiple payment technologies in mind. With the A80, you can take traditional magnetic strip cards, EMV chip-enabled cards, and contactless payments, including Apple Pay. You can also accept QR code payments.
Made a mistake or need to provide credits to a customer? No problem. You can void transactions before completion if you made an error, or provide refunds to dissatisfied customers if necessary.
Or perhaps you’re running a restaurant or other business that accepts gratuities. With the A80, you can choose the tipping method that best fits your workflow. You can allow customers to add a tip right at the time of the transaction or utilize “tip adjust” to make an adjustment to the bill for the tip later.
Device Measurements and Specifications
A 4″ color touchscreen makes the A80 easy to use, while the high-speed built-in printer means you can provide receipts without having to connect an external printer. Additionally, the terminal’s small size makes it convenient for a variety of environments, including retail, restaurant, and offices.
The A80 weighs just 13 ounces and measures approximately 7 inches long by 3 inches wide and 3 inches high. An optional battery allows you the flexibility to move the terminal to different locations as needed, providing necessary portability in a fast-paced environment.
Operating System and Connections
Unlike some other terminals, the A-series (including the A80) runs on an Android operating system, meaning a smaller learning curve and access to Android apps to make the most of your terminal. You’ll be able to gain sales and marketing insights in addition to performing basic functions like accepting payments and running reports.
When it comes to connections, the A80 offers dial-up, Bluetooth, and Wifi connectivity.
Accessories and Options
You can use the A80 as it comes, or add accessories to tailor a solution for your needs. Available accessories include a privacy shield for the PIN pad and a swivel / tilt stand to use the device in a fixed location (such as a front counter) but allow it to be turned to face customers when needed, such as for entering PINs.
Additional accessories such as cases and docks may be available from other sellers, but are not currently listed on the PAX website. Be sure to confirm compatibility with your specific terminal if you purchase accessories from third-party sellers or processing companies.
Processor Compatibility
PAX terminals, including the A80, are not limited to one credit card processor. That means you can search for the right low-cost processing solution for your needs with any processor that supports the PAX line. If you need help finding a processor that supports PAX, use CardFellow’s credit card processor comparison tools. It’s free and only takes a minute. Try it now!
How much does the PAX A80 cost?
PAX calls the A80 its most cost-effective terminal in the A-series line. However, PAX won’t be the one setting the final cost that you’ll pay for the machine. The processing company that you choose to accept credit cards will set the cost for your A80.
Some processors use the allure of “free” equipment to get you to sign up, but keep in mind that there’s no such thing as free credit card machines.
